Wow. This is a long time coming. I have been meaning to write this since what, October? (Here is Beth's guest post and Emily's guest post on Shaklee 180). I just couldn't start on it because I felt I had too much to say but I have been thinking a lot lately about health and wellness habits. Maybe because it's the season where everyone's eating/drinking habits go crazy, workout schedules are non-existent, and immune systems seem obsolete. So here it is. Part one of my Shaklee 180 story. There is at least a part two if not a part three coming. I only want to bore you in small doses. :)
So where do I begin? Let's begin pre-child. Before I got pregnant with our son at the end of 2011, I was down 20 pounds from our wedding day four years earlier. I'd like to tell you those 20 pounds was a healthy journey. It wasn't. Sixty-nine days after our wedding, my mom was in a tragic accident where she died three days later. I lived off of coffee and ibuprofen for a month. Weight dropped but I was FAR from healthy. With time, my life started to balance out again and for the most part the weight did too. But the one day in 2010, I decided I wanted to become a runner. I mean a real runner. Yes, we had a treadmill that we had used sporadically but I wanted to be consistent and legit. It was a gorgeous spring day and I was on my way to a volunteer event. There were people outside enjoying the day on every street. I thought to myself, "How do you become that?" The answer was simple. YOU JUST DO. So one day I got on the "dreadmill" and I pushed myself and I kept getting on it until I was up to three miles. Then I moved outside. Outside was liberating! I never wanted to go back on the treadmill again. Long story short, it became a habit. I signed up for 5ks, eventually a 10k, and finally broke my goal of running a 5k under 30 minutes this past fall. With all that running, I was back down those 20 pounds from our wedding day but I was completely off base when it came to food. In fact, I never even really thought about it. It was around the time that I was running like a mad woman that I also started paying attention to what Jina Schaefer had to say about being healthIER and happIER over at The Happy Healthy Truth. We'll get back to that.
In 2012, when I was a few months pregnant, I signed up to sell Shaklee. My main motivation for signing up was for the extra income and the cleaning products. Shaklee had a weight loss program in place but obviously with me being pregnant at the time, I wasn't about to do that part of the business. In fact, I was down right adamant that I wasn't even going to sell that to people. Ever. I believe in every day habits making you healthier not gimmicks and diets! But I went on my pregnant little way and had my boy in September of 2012. When I went back to work in December of 2012, my mornings were INSANE. Up super early to pump, get ready, get my baby ready, have breakfast, pack snacks, pack lunches, blah blah blah. You all know what I mean. So much to do and so little time. It was during that time that I started taking Shaklee's shakes. I was taking them out of pure convenience. I needed something fast and filling in the mornings to get me out the door. I was NOT doing this program! Got it!!
