Where Do I Start?

Oh, house cleaning... No one really loves you. Most of us even have one household chore that we would love to have someone else come take care of for us. For me, it's cleaning the kitchen. For others it is laundry. Some it is dusting and almost everyone would love to pass on cleaning the bathrooms. The chores are inevitable and one thing that I have found is that having fragrance free, simple to use, cost effective cleaners has helped motivate me to find quick ways to make cleaning easier. And that's right, clean does NOT have a smell. You do not need a room filled with lemony pine to ensure it is clean. But I'll save that passionate topic for another day.

Today, I want to take some time to walk you through the Get Clean line up from Shaklee. If you have been on the fence about this kit, this post is for you but before we get started...

Did you know?

• Over 90% of poison exposures happen at home.
• Common chlorine bleach is the #1 household chemical involved in poisonings.
• Organic pollutants, found in many common cleaners and even air fresheners, have levels 2 to 5 times higher inside your home than out.
• Common cleaners give off fumes that can potentially increase the risk of kids developing asthma, the most common chronic childhood disease.
• 1 in 13 school-aged children has asthma. Rates in children under 5 increased more than 160% from 1980 –1994.
• If your home is anything like the average U.S. home, you generate more than 20 pounds of household hazardous waste each year (the EPA designates toilet cleaners, tub and tile cleaners, oven cleaners, and bleach as hazardous waste).

Yikes. Cleaning can be scary but there is a better way. Let's talk about Shaklee's Get Clean products.

The Get Clean Starter Kit contains the following.

  • Germ Off Disinfecting Wipes, 35 Wipes

  • Dish Wash Concentrate, 16 oz.
  • Dish Washer Automatic Concentrate, 32 oz.
  • Fresh Laundry Concentrate HE Compatible, Fragrance Free 32 oz. (Liquid)
  • Soft Fabric Dryer Sheets, 80 sheets
  • Dish Washer Automatic Concentrate Dispenser (empty)
  • Nature Bright® Dispenser (empty)
  • Organizer Caddy
  • Spray Bottles
    • Windows and Mirrors
    • All-Purpose
    • Degreasing
  • Dropper Pipette
  • 1/4 oz. Dispenser Pump for 32 oz. Bottle

  • Dual Measuring Spoon
  • Cleaning Accessories
    • Super Microfiber Cleaning Cloth
    • Super Microfiber Window Cloth
    • Super Microfiber Dish Sponge
    • Miracle Scrubber Pad

That's great but what do I do with all of it and what does it replace?!

This is really all you need under your sink!

This is really all you need under your sink!

The Basic H is the cornerstone cleaner of the kit. With that, you will mix different cleaners into the three labeled spray bottles that you receive. There is one for windows/mirrors, all purpose, and degreaser. To mix the window cleaner, you mix 16oz of water with 2 DROPS of Basic H. Yes, two DROPS. If you were to only make window cleaner with that bottle of Basic H, you could make over 5,000 bottles of window cleaner! It's that powerful. You would use the window mix for all glass surfaces. You mix the all purpose cleaner with 16oz of water and a 1/4tsp of Basic H. The all purpose cleaner is for table tops, counter tops, cleaning the inside of your refrigerator, really any surface where you can safely spray water, you can safely use this mixture! I've cleaned couches and carpet with this! Finally, you would mix the degreaser bottle with 16oz of water and 1 1/2tsp of Basic H. This is great for stoves, microwaves, and caked on food. With the Basic H, you will replace window cleaner, dusting spray. carpet cleaner, surface cleaner, oven cleaner, floor cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, and more!

The Germ Off wipes are your disinfecting component to the kit. These are used for bathroom surfaces or kitchen surfaces where raw meat was used. Basic H mixtures disinfect but not 99.9% of germs so you can safely use it for most messes, but for those highly contaminated surfaces you would want to use your Germ Off Wipes.

In your kitchen, you can replace your liquid dish soap and your dishwasher detergent because you will receive each in your kit. You need VERY LITTLE of either of these products so they tend to last quite awhile. Personally, I run the dishwasher around five times a week and I only repurchase the detergent once or twice a YEAR. Plus, both are free of fragrances and dyes.

In your laundry room, you will receive dryer sheets, liquid laundry detergent, and Nature Bright, a laundry booster. To pre-treat clothes, you can use the detergent or even some Basic H! You can also soak clothes in some water with Nature Bright. The dryer sheets are veggie based so they aren't what you expect! However, traditional dryer sheets leave a film of chemical on your clothes and in your dryer. It's not good for you or the longevity of your dryer. The kit comes with a 32oz bottle of liquid laundry detergent and a pump. I eventually converted to the powder laundry detergent because it last longer so I don't have to purchase it as frequently and is more cost effective. The Nature Bright I use with every load of clothes, just a little sprinkle right in with them. Dryer sheets are purchased the most frequently out of this, with detergent second, and Nature Bright maybe once a year. I only use the fragrance free detergent. My husband and son have eczema so I want to keep their clothes as safe as possible. I have nasal allergies so I keep all fragrances out of our house to make sure nothing aggravates my nose! The best part of this laundry line up is that I have NEVER washed my son's clothes separately even as a newborn. His clothes, blankets, and towels are washed with our stuff because of how gentle but effective these products are.

But does this stuff work?

Shaklee products outperform 20 national leading brands (from laundry to dishwashing) and if it doesn't we have a 100% money back guarantee.

But the Starter Kit is $99! That's crazy!!

To get the same amount of clean that you would in a Get Clean starter kit, you would have to spend $3,400. Now, THAT is crazy. I completely understand that from the outside looking in, the thought of dropping $100+ dollars for cleaning products, seems ludicrous. But before Get Clean, I remember I would walk up and down the aisles at Target searching for the "next best thing" when it came to cleaners. I don't even know how many I tried once and never again! That was money that I was spending weekly on new cleaners that didn't work and smelled awful. Say those purchases were only $3 a piece... that adds up to $156 a year on products that are junk! They ended up never used and just disposed.

Why I Will Only Use Shaklee

I will admit, it took me awhile to grieve the loss of some of my traditional household cleaners when I started using Shaklee in 2012. I put them all in a box and decided that I'd store them away just in case I needed them again. Well, as time passed, I didn't need any of them anymore. I was completely hooked on the entire Shaklee line up. Fast forward a bit and now I have a mischievous toddler. He was 13 months old at the time and we were moving. For some dumb reason, I packed him in the car next to a box of stuff from our laundry room. Well, the laundry soap had a pump dispenser on in and while I was filling the car with gas, my tiny tot was sucking on the detergent!! He ingested some! Soon, he started vomiting and coughing and I found myself calling poison control (1 (800) 222-1222 If you don't have it in your phone, do it now!). It was so scary and one of the first questions I was asked from poison control was "Was it one of those pods??" I thankfully said no, told her it was Shaklee and she proceeded to walk me through the next steps. Thankfully, a trip to the ER was NOT one of them! We just needed to keep an eye on him throughout the night. The next morning he was completely fine and I was on the phone with Shaklee to make sure I did the right thing. I was transferred to someone in the development lab for the cleaning products and he assured me that my son would be fine but to keep products out of reach (yes, oops, sorry!). After that call, I was even more impressed with Shaklee. How many companies would let you talk to someone of that caliber when you had a simple consumer concern? The whole cleaning experience does NOT make me passionate about cleaning. I mean, come on. Who really likes to clean?? My experience made me passionate about the safety and peace of mind Shaklee products bring to my family and that is what I want to share with others. Every home should be this safe.

At 13 months old, our story could have ended much differently when our little boy ingested some laundry detergent. Thankfully, he was safe.

I’m not passionate about cleaning. But the safety and peace of mind Shaklee cleaning brought to my family is something I feel every family should have
