Meet Kaytlin

My Story:

In February of 2011, I found out I had every sign of Celiac Disease, which meant I would be unable to eat gluten for the rest of my life.  A week later (before final medical tests could be completed), I found out I was prego with my second child.  So, needless to say, it was a week of BIG news for me.  The doctors recommended I begin the gluten free diet to see how I felt, even though I could not get an endoscopy due to pregnancy.  It was interesting to be pregnant along with making a huge change to your diet.

Fast forward to January 2014, on my son’s 4 year check-up, his doctor gave him a blood test to check for Celiac since I have it and have felt much better since cutting gluten out of my diet.  He tested positive for it and went through an endoscopy.  Since he was now diagnosed with Celiac, the pediatrician recommended our daughter also get the blood test, which was positive, followed by an endoscopy for her…  Both kids diagnosed with Celiac within a month and also must start a strict gluten free diet.

Rewind 3 months and my husband landed in the ER and then admitted to the hospital for 4 days.  After A LOT of patience and testing, he was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease.  So, the 4 of us all have certain restrictions, but it’s all very manageable..

So, now that you know my family’s medical history… I’ll get on with what I have to say about Shaklee.  Unfortunately, all 4 of us have autoimmune, genetic diseases, so we’ve got it for life and there’s no way to prevent it.  However, with cutting gluten out of our diet, we’re missing important vitamins and nutrients that we would normally get from wheat products.  B vitamins is something you would usually get from carbs and other products derived from wheat.  Guess what? Shaklee has a natural, proven B vitamin supplement.

As for my husband, he has to be on multiple immune suppressants to keep Crohn’s at bay, so he is prescribed certain vitamins and minerals and any additional way to maintain his health is great!

Very recently, I decided that I wanted to take more steps to improve both mine and my family’s health.  We’re fairly lucky and stay away unexpected doctor visits, but I know personally, that I could stand to feel better on a regular basis.  Also, I’m 100% certain that these steps will have a huge improvement on my common ’bleh’ attitude that, frankly I've gotten tired of and I’m sure those around me have as well!  :) Moreover, I wanted to invest my time in a rewarding venture because I love to listen to and help people.  And while I get that from my day job, these products are truly too good not to share.  I've heard stories upon stories of how Shaklee products have changed lives by improving the health of families by eliminating allergies/asthma, or by eliminating doctor visits because your body can stand up to the cold/flu season after taking Shaklee vitamins!  It’s amazing to me and I want to be a part of it. #BeAPartOfTheEffect

A Journey Worth Taking

If weight loss is your goal in 2015, I truly believe you have come to the right place.

If you've been by this page recently, you've probably seen our posts about how the team wants to help you make 2015 YOUR year. You've also maybe thought "Damn, that's a lot of information." or "Tell me more!" The simple message is this. If you are committed to losing ten pounds this year, my team has an amazing and proven system to help support you. 

I have run two "challenge" groups in the past that are focused on weight loss with the Shaklee 180 program. I'm not sure why I keep calling them challenge groups because it's more of a support/accountability group. The "challenge" lies within yourself.  The first group was in 2013, when I invited others to join me on a weight loss journey. I was going to do the program the way it was designed. Here's my first story. 

Where it all began...

Shaklee 180 is not your "diet" typical program. When I signed up with Shaklee in 2012, I was adamant that I was NOT going to sell people weight loss products. My mentality was that the proper way to manage your diet was with eating right and exercise--no excuses! I was NOT partaking in this piece of the business. (Insert kicking and screaming). I was just going to focus on cleaning products and vitamins and go on my merry way. (Insert more kicking and screaming).

Well the summer of 2013 made me change my mind for many reasons.

I had recently started staying home with our nine month old son. After nine years at my corporate job, this was a whole new world for me. I had no idea what life would be like as a stay at home mom. By this time post-baby, I had lost a good portion of the 50 pounds I had gained when I was pregnant but I still had a ways to go. I had started my stay at home journey with big plans to run or walk daily. Then I found out I was pregnant. I figured there was no point in getting fit at that point so I was just going to coast through the summer. But then we miscarried. By fall of 2013, I was quite unhappy with my body so I decided to take the Shaklee 180 program seriously. I needed a major pick me up. I didn't feel I needed to lose a ton of weight so I didn't join with a Turnaround kit but rather started with the Lean and Healthy kit.  I used the tracker and online tools to document my food intake, monitor my exercise, and learn new recipes.  After 90 days, I had lost 15 pounds and was in a size I hadn't seen since high school. But it wasn't about the weight lost but how my body changed, how energetic and healthy I felt, and how I did it by eating whole, real foods with Shaklee's support. I also asked others to join me. Together we made some amazing changes. So what changed my mind?? 

First of all, actually "doing the program" made me change my mind. I've heard several stories about how the program maybe didn't work but then the person says they did their own version of it rather than following the directions. Please follow the directions for best results! For me, taking the time to understand the program was what I really needed. I understood that this was a program that wanted to teach you how to eat real food, how to incorporate movement into your life, and how to maintain that lifestyle. It allowed you to eat what you wanted, you could eventually abandon the dreaded calorie tracking, you could LIVE. You learn what fuels your body. You learn to be energized. You learn to be healthy.

Less is More

Oof. I don't know about you but coming off of Christmas has been a bit rough. Yesterday, I told my sister-in-law that I thought I literally had a brick of cream cheese in my stomach. I think I was right. Between buffalo chicken dip and pickle dip, I ate my weight in it. Holiday baked goods? No thanks. Dip?? That's where you will find me bellied up. 

As I have been eating today, I am cleaning up my act. My snack today consisted of an apple with peanut butter on it and it got me thinking about one of the best food lessons I've learned. 

Less is More.

When I say this, I am talking about the amount of ingredients that are in your foods. If you are eating whole, real foods there is only one ingredient. My snack today was an apple. The peanut butter I chose was one that had fewer ingredients than other brands.  Yes, I sit in the aisle and do a glance over the amount of ingredients that are typically in my pantry staples. I've always said that I'm not a huge label reader. You can read more about that here. But it doesn't take much time or knowledge to know that less is more when it comes to your food. So as the day has progressed I found myself making a list of things that I try to "upgrade" when shopping. 

  1. Peanut Butter--even within a brand you can find healthier options by going natural.
  2. Ketchup--get the one that doesn't have High Fructose Corn Syrup in it
  3. Salad Dressings--I typically buy the dressing that is in the cooler instead of the shelf. 
  4. Vegetables--I converted over to frozen instead of canned.
  5. Pickles--this one just gets me. When I actually read the pickle label and saw yellow dye in it. Even though the more I think about it, I don't think I bought the right kind last time...
  6. Mac & Cheese--Since we tend to eat A LOT of this and I haven't found a homemade recipe that we love, I usually buy organic but if I not I make sure it is a dye free kind.

Those are just a few things that I thought of today but I know there are more. What are some "less is more" or "food upgrades" that you do around your house?

5 Day Detox

As part of our 'Make 2015 YOUR Year' we are also offering a 5 day detox option! This option is great for an active person who normally eats well and exercises but would like to get back on track after an indulgent holiday season. This detox starts January 12 and will run for five consecutive days! You can do anything for five days!! I (Tracy) will be joining along and leading our private Facebook community as well. We will share recipes, victories, and motivation to help you be successful these five days. There are some great benefits from this easy program. I am looking forward to the increased energy and body reset! 

What is the schedule like for the five days? It's really quite simple. We have outlined it below. In our Facebook group we will also share smoothee recipes, salad recipes, and share veggie snack ideas! It is very important for the best results that you are following the schedule below for the full five days. Modifying or short-cutting will reduce your results! You will want to avoid alcohol and caffeine during these five days as well. If you are used to have coffee, you can substitute for one of our great tea flavors. Stick to drinking as much water as possible with 64oz at the minimum! I like to start my day with some lemon water and some advise to drink lemon water all day. That doesn't work for me so please do what is best for you! 

What do you need to purchase to get started? We have outlined the kit below along with some optional add-in products to maximize your detox.
