Tis the Season for Russian Teas

News alert! I am thirty one years old and I had my first Russian Tea this year. My best friend thought I was off my rocker. She said, "That drink makes me think of being about seven years old and you're only trying it now?!" Yes, dear friend. Yes.

I was in my hometown at this most adorable floral/gift shop and they were giving them out to their patrons. It was heaven in a glass. Smells like Christmas. Had to make it. So I turned to Google and used this recipe.

It, of course, was delicious.

However, I wasn't in love with the ingredients. Yikes, that was A LOT sugar.

So today an opportunity fell onto my lap. My Shaklee order came and I had decided to give their pomegranate tea another try in efforts to reduce my coffee intake. Not eliminate, just reduce!

While I think tea smells amazing, I have never liked it. I had seen some posts of other people putting citrus fruit with their tea to change the flavor. I only have clementines on hand so I decided to add some clementine juice to the tea. The smell and taste turned on an instant light bulb!! Soon I was sprinkling in a bit of ground clove, some cinnamon, and a teeny bit of sugar. With that a much healthier Russian Tea was born!

Recipe:

  • 1 Stick of Pomegranate Tea mixed with 8oz hot water
  • Juice from 1 Clementine
  • Dash of Cinnamon
  • Dash of Clove
  • Sugar to Taste

Ok, that's not how I looked drinking it today but I am wearing that shirt. Close enough??

This may be my new favorite warm, afternoon treat! What are some ways you've improved your favorite beverages?
